About tefl-online
The intention behind this is to help teachers and schools find one another.
What is TEFL?
It is an abreviation otherwise known as (Teaching English as a Foreign Language)
Job listers, schools and teachers are encouraged to post and reply.
All around the world people are learning the English language it is something that is growing each day.
Perhaps one day nearly everyone will be able to speak, read and write English.
Think of how much easier everything will be if nearly everyone can communicate with one another.
Teaching English is a great way to learn and explore the world.
Sometimes picking a destination is not an easy task to do.
There are so many wonderful countries to choose from.
For teachers they usually have a few options to choose from when looking for a potential job.
And certain countries seem to prefer native English speakers over non-native speakers.
There are different ways a teacher can find work.
First, there is the traditional way of teaching in a private or public school system. And the other way is teaching the private route finding students freelance style.
Some teachers even decide to go into business for themself and start a school or several instructors get together and form a partnership.
They then split shifts between one another often even sharing accommendations.
This helps reduce the costs of daily living expenses.
Also couples sometimes decide to teach together even in the same school system.
What do I need to become a TEFL teacher?
The basic qualification for teaching English is an undergraduate degree in any subject, plus a TESL or TEFL certificate.
There are also online courses that can be taken conveniently from home.
Some schools do not require any previous knowledge for new teachers to get their feet wet.
This once again depends on what country you are seeking to teach in.
Just because you know English and can speak, read and write doesn't mean you are qualified to teach it.
But sometimes schools are in dire need and are willing to take the chance on someone entirely new.
TESL (Teaching English as a Second Language) is another certification much like TEFL only teaching English as a second language to students.
There are several other degrees and certifications such as TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages)
And one of the most prestigous CELTA (Certification in English Language Teaching to Adults)
The CELTA is often viewed by many as the ultimate in language teaching knowledge.
But there is another certificate the name of this is TRINITY.
The diploma is awarded upon passing a course which includes an externally examined written paper, an internally assessed and externally moderated coursework portfolio, an externally examined interview, and a teaching practice component that includes four internally assessed and externally moderated lessons, plus one externally examined lesson. All components are monitored or examined by Trinity examiners. The LTCL TESOL is accredited in the United Kingdom.
The LTCL TESOL diploma is widely recognized around the world.
All candidates for the LTCL TESOL must have completed a course validated by Trinity College. They must also have a first degree or equivalent; a minimum of two years' recent full-time ESOL teaching experience; and an ability to speak and write English appropriate for a teacher of English at advanced levels.
Of course those individuals who have dedicated themself to teaching will have even more training through school and practice.
Another qualification is the DELTA. (Diploma in English Language Teaching to Adults)
This certificate is awarded by Cambridge Assessment.
The Diploma (or Dip) is often seen as a follow-up to the CELTA certificate.
Once the individual has done a couple of years of teaching and has decided on a more long-term and serious commitment to the teaching of English. The Dip does not cover related non-teaching responsibilities (admininstration, training of teachers, and so on), but those who undertake these tasks often hold this qualification, or its equivalent.
The LTCL TESOL and DELTA are often viewed as roughly equivalent qualifications.
